I agree with you that we ought to reduce our fuel usage when we can, but it seems to me that a more long-range and more long-lasting solution would be for us to start building more refineries and to open up the drilling off-shore and in ANWR. If we could supply our own petroleum products, we wouldn't be as dependent on foreign sources.
However, looking at the programs that our Federal government is pushing right now, it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. Instead, I think we're going to get "cracker-box" vehicles and high priced gasoline.
Who knows why? I've heard all of the arguments and none of them makes perfect sense to me.
