You would be wiser to stay with a gas engine. Back in the early sixties Ford sent out service memos regarding their diesel engines. Do not reuse a resized crankshaft. Instead replace crankshaft with new. The reason for this is since the diesel is a converted gas block, the crankshaft is only supported by three main bearing. Turning the crank makes it more prone to breaking. I have converted diesel tractor to gas and had to use the diesel flywheel on the gas engine because of the difference in the transmission shaft lenth. But the tractor had a 5 speed.
