Three concussions, then, in 1970, a skull fracture.... Got hit on the left top portion of my head by a 7lb steel pulley and 3 feet of chain that fell 20+ feet before I stopped it. Surgeon came in to talk with me after fixing me up, and said "Anyone ever tell you that you have a hard head? You can believe them. X-rays show your skull is about 1/3 thicker than most people's, and that's what saved your life today!" When my family doc took the stitches out, he said, "This is the fourth head injury you've had that I know about. The damage from these is cumulative. Go buy a hard hat, and wear the d@mn thing! Another one or two of these, and you could be hearing bells like an old boxer!" I still wear a hard had when I think there is any chance I'll get dinged on the head while working.
At various times, also broken toes, fingers, nose, ribs, one leg, and stress fractures in my back. I'm a 7-year 7-month cancer survivor, and still working at 65. Overall health is very good.
