These are very interseting coments based on experiences. I've formulated antifreeze and corrosion inhibitors for it for 13yrs so I have some insight into the problems also. Ethylene glycol (ethane diol) C2H6O2 can and does break down to form acids due to heat, oxygen, and other outside influences. The reserve alkalinity in the coolant formulation is meant to neutralize this acid. That is a good reason to change coolant on some kind of schedule based on type of use. My recomendation is #1 Use only distilled or deionized water for coolant dilution or radiator addition. VERY IMPORTANT. I would be glad to answer most specific coolant formulation questions.
