I was kinda wondering the same thing about the ring gear moving back.. All I can think of is someone has maybe installed a ringgear recently and stretched it during the installation. It is easy to do if it isn't heated enough to expand it over the shoulder. The shoulder is maybe .010 or .020.I'll bet it was spinning, and it got forced back by a 12V battery on a 6V starter. The first time I heard of the stepped flywheel, I didn't beleive it either. But it turned out the guru's of the N board were right.Must not have been too good an idea, as Ford and all the other makers certainly do NOT do a step anymore! Thanks, Kim for these boards.. If it wasn't for YT I'd still be trying to figure out how that groove got worn into my flywheeel!
