Last time I had that happen, was with a post hole digger, newer release mechanism, but the fine/loose rust, just jammed up the works, person who hooked it up should have wire brushed the coupler on the post hole digger, it took a 6 foot bar and an afternoon to get it apart, cannot imagine what it would have been like if it was left on and bonded together. Heat is probably not an option, grease, and or changing the qualities of the metal, I would suggest an industrial penetrant like Free-All, by Gasoila, make sure that release in is out or in the unlocked position and get some sort of a bar in there, hard rubber mallet, for some impact and vibration, keep on er, should come apart with some elbow grease.
