Walter Cronkite is presumably roasting in hell on a slow spit. After all, he has the blood of over 56,000 U.S. servicemen on his hands.
I'll explain. According to a 1990's interview with General Giap, commander of the North Vietnamese Army, in 1968 North Vietnam was on the ropes and ready to call it quits. They intended the Tet Offensive to be a last gap effort before they surrendered. The Offensive was, in reality, a large victory for the U.S. and General Giap was ready to surrender. At this time, U.S. casualties were less than 1,000.
Then, for whatever reason involving his own personal agenda, Walter Cronkite reported the Tet Offensive to be a stunning LOSS for the United States. General Giap said he was dumbfounded and incredulous when he learned Cronkite had reported the Tet Offensive as a victory for the North Vietnamese and a loss for the U.S. This gave the North Vietnamese the encouragement to hang on for one more hour, one more day, one more month, and drag the war on for another seven years, with the resulting loss of another 56,000+ U.S. servicemen.
With a precedent like this, is it any wonder the current mainstream media is as anti-American as it is?
