MFD. NRE were on the way out when combines hit the field, but still stuck around for a while. When tractors started coming from the factory with MFD tricycles would not work. Factorys were set up to be able to put these front ends on and a NFE would not fit on the assembly line. A WFE would let the same piece of equipment be used to locate the frontend for either MFD or 2wd front axles, NFE would not sit on these pieces of equipment and would have had to be put on by hand, slowing down the line. A guy could go on forever about why NFE are gone, but the simple reason is that technology got good enough to make the NFE obsolete.
