I'm NOT a Mason, but have a very deep appreciation for them.
Five of the seven founders of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry (aka GRANGE) were Masons. My Dad joined both orders about the same time and said many times that he had a very difficult time keeping the rituals separate in his mind due to the close similarity.
A few years ago, I attended a Masonic Funeral Service (graveside)...came home and read the Grange Funeral Service. The two services were eerily similar. The symbolism is/was beautiful and quite touching.
I am a 50 year member of the Grange. Well, more like a "lifetime" member as Dad attended a Grange meeting on the evening I was born and announced my birth. I've seen the meeting minutes!!
Grange ritual has had a profound influence on what I believe about life and how to get along with other people...especially those whose opinions I disagree with.
