I was 2 1/2 years losing sleep till we settled. My CPA said he would guarentee I would not have to pay a cent in fines or taxes. (this man does the taxes and mergers for the biggest tractor company in the US. He said my books were 100% correct. But he charged $150.00 per hr to fight it for me--1995.

My books were 100%, and for two years (92 & 93) I was missing $12.00 (yea thats twelve dollars)worth of recipts...I had the canceled check, but no recipt to prove the $12.00 check was correct. Any idea how many folks ....THINK....a canceled check is all you need? Good luck in a audit if you think that.

It would be great to have a national TV station with a hidden camera in the room when a person is dealing with those government workers. My tax audit was by mail, they refused to meet at my desk, CPA's or their office. I feel I won 99% of the race, but realy feel violated that it costs to much to fight them off.

We did get some real good licks on the audit expert. Almost as good as wining a argument with the mother in law---bless her little heart.

To help me vent, I should add that it took 9 documents to prove to them that I had custody of my son. Two of the documents were court documents / one was a divorce decree / papers that were very direct awarding me custody / primary care. The second document was a modification order that the judge stated that my son HAD LIVED WITH ME (92 & 93.) Seems a judges ruling should have been enough proof.

OK now I will take my meds.

Today's Featured Article - A Brief History of Tractors in Australia - by Bob Kavanagh. After Captain Cook's exploration of the east coast in 1770 the British Government decided to establish a penal colony in Australia. The first fleet arrived in 1788 and consisted mainly of convicts who were poorly equipped and new little of farming techniques. The colony remained far from self-supporting and it was not until the early 1800's that things started to improve.
