If this proposed healthcare reform turns out like most other government programs, you'll spend so much time waiting in line for your end-of-life counseling that you'll probably die of old age before they ever get to you.
My first wife hat crippling rheumatiod arthritis, so she filed for Social Security disability. She was turned down the first time, they said, because she wasn't disabled and didn't have sufficient earnings. She appealed, and this time they "discovered" that she did, indeed, have sufficient earnings, but she wasn't disabled. So she appealed again, and the case was heard before an administrative law judge. She won her case, but SS had 60 days to appeal the verdict...they appealed on the 59th day.
So we went before the administrative law judge again, who incredulously asked her, "Why are YOU back here? Your case wasn't even a close decision!" So she won the 4th round, and after spending over two years in the SS claims and appeals system, she collected disability payments for less than two years, when she died at age 36.
Bad news is, this is probably how your medical treatment will be decided under the proposed system. Worse news is, it's the best new option they've come up with yet.
