Animals get sick and die. People get sick and die, too. Everything above ground will eventually be below ground. Contrary to what is becoming popular opinion, human life is more valuable than animal life. We've had old animals get sick and die, or have to be put down. Yeah, it can be tough, especially if they've been around a long time.
Vet bills is part of the reason that my daughter still doesn't have a horse. We've had people offer free horses to us, but I am personally not interested in an animal that large which is really nothing but a pet. We've got two pet cats. All the other animals work for a living, even the dogs. Maybe if fuel gets really high like it did last year, and stays high, I'll change my tune about a horse, but until then I don't think so.
