Ford gave me some little plastic sheild to put inside the door over the cable to keep water off of it. They claimed in the winter, moisture would freeze the cable - then cause it to stretch when you open it...
No more than it helped me - I don't really buy that theory.
I started using old push rods out of an engine - weld it to a small metal plate & then bent the rod to the original contour of the handle...
I've fixed 4 or 5 that way... I just got tired of snapping those plastic ones off...
