There's not a lot to go on. As Bob said, be sure that the suction line is able to pick up oil all the time. There may be something in there floating around also, that may be clogging the intake.

Check your suction lines all the way to the pump. It could be that when heating a fitting or crack is opening and sucking air. Also, as the oil gets hot the viscosity reduces and may be breaking vacuum in some loose joints.

As I recall, the pump is mounted on the front of the motor and runs off the cam gear with an external line going back to the lift cylinder valve under the seat. It has to lift about 15" - 18" so. Closely check for inlet leaks. The pump may be worn and the hot oil is slipping past the worn gears in the pump.

You may have to break the line going to the lift valve and insert a by-pass with a gauge. It should flow all the time when the engine is running and as you throttle back the flow with shut-off valve the gauge should show pressure. At this point be careful because if there is no relief valve built in the pump you can split the pump or lines if you restrict it too much. Close down on the valve that you just installed and try to adjust the pressure up to about 1000 psi by restricting the flow for about 2- 3 minutes. The discharged oil should be directed back into the sump. Watch to see if you see it falter in any way. If so, then the problem is up stream. If no falter is seen, then the problem is either in the directional valve or cylinder.

You may want to check the by-pass at the directional valve for the lift. It may be sticking open after an over pressurization. The higher temperature may be changing the fitting of the parts and causing binding.

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Godfrey, Illinois Country Days - by Cindy Ladage. Except for last fourth of July's Old Gold show in Springfield, Illinois, I don't remember when it was so hot. Nevertheless, the heat didn't keep vendors and visitors alike from enjoying the third annual Country Day's Event. Jane Elliott said the event was originally a one man show. "Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this ... [Read Article]
