I thought of that too. But I usually remove my own tires and I use a couple of crow bars over the lip to get it off. I don't think FG can take that kind of punishment on the lip and would probably splinter causing glass needles to puncture the tube. A better solution is to use heavy gauge steel 3/32in from an old boiler or drum about 24in across. On a massey wheel where the inside is flat you can braze a cylinder of the drum over the original rim then putty (not FG) where the edges meet the rim to protect the tube from sharp edges. Another solution for a MH is to use a ford jobber rim of the correct size and work on the outside by removing the 6 OMEGA ("U") clamps and welding in your own bolt arrangment. But I'm in agreement with the guys here, it's a dangerous alternative. The only solution is preventive maintenance. Stay away from the calcium crap and keep the rims painted and in top shape.
