Below the face are the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "9TH PRESIDENT 1841." On the obverse there is the image of the Statue of Liberty with torch in upraised hand, the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", and "$1".
This is the first coin OR bill I've ever seen that uses the dollar sign "$" and a numeral, rather than spelling out the denomination.
But the rumors about those Godless communists eliminating the motto from our coins are, as usual, a fantasy.
