Dear Friends, The story below is one from missionary friends in Africa. Who have a need for a crankcase on a 1972 John Deere 1020 tractor. Any ideas on where one might be located for cheap? Maybe a used or hibernating crankcase/engine sitting around unused somewhere that could be donated or acquired inexpensively. Any ideas? Let me know... Patrick While in Ejeda we also had to deal with the breakdown of the 1972 John Deere 1020 tractor which had thrown a con-rod while delivering corn some 30 km away. This tractor, purchased in 1972, has performed remarkably well these past 28 years but with a hole the size of grapefruit in the crankcase we decided that it should be brought to Tana to see if it could be repaired. Thus we hauled the tractor engine (in our van) to Tana and received the word yesterday that if they are able to patch the hole in the crankcase, then the total repair (complete overhaul--the first in 28 years) will cost $3500. If the crankcase can not be patched, the purchase of a new crankcase would be prohibitively out of range.
