That's not that unusual of a problem. No use to over kill the fix of the tractor just for having a dead/low battery. Alot of times when you try to crank any cold engine with the battery too low it will engage the starter and then it does'nt have enough centrifical force to disengage itself when you release the control button.. The selonoid cannot cut off the fire once it's energized until it is allowed to return to the home position, there fore the starter sits there trying to operate as long as it can draw what electric there is left in the battery. It's the same problem and solution no matter if you're working with and electric start lawn mower or a V16 diesel land mover.
