If the tractor has the serial # plate on dash, then usually the letters are the model and numbers serial # of tractor. The year of the tractor for models between 1939 and 1955 can be dtermined by subtracting 4 from first two numbers in serial #. For models before 1939 I believe you take the first and fourth numbers of serial # and subtract 3 for year. Has you get to know Case tractors you will able to tell just by looking at them what model they are.
