Yes,it can be done. I had 2 lift cylinders here for a loader. The tubes were shot but the rams were good. The bucket cylinders used the same diameter ram,but shorter. They had the T type end. Well,over the years the one boy,then myself broke the threaded end off inside the bucket cylinder. I shortened both of those lift cylinder rams by cutting the T ends off the longer rams and welding them back on. And they had to pull to tilt the bucket back and hold the weight. They both held dispite the fact that I did the welding. Take the ram out of the cylinder before you cut or weld on it though so you don't burn up the seal.
