I've never sold insurance, but I have a brother-in-law and a close friend who lost their shirts trying to do so.
I think gun guru is right on. If you sell auto or casualty you might be able to make it, but life, disability, and long-term care are really hard to sell.
I've never personally known anyone who made out with multi-level deals.
