My Dad went from MP to NYS Police, did a little time in uniform, field-tested the 44 Mag for them when it came out, as he had been a Marksman as an MP. Moved up to BCI Investigator, and had the bad fortune to be assigned to Troop A, Batavia- which meant he was on the crew at the Attica prison riot- if you've ever watched the movie, the old man was the guy firing tear gas out of the helicopter over the yard. They caught up to him coming out of the command post after his shift, as he was the first one with command rank they could find that was certed to fire the gas. He never really was the same after he got home from there, pulled the pin at 20 and got out- but never had to fire his 2" Colt at a person. Went on to do another 10 as the Security Supervisor at West Valley Nuclear (Google) so I got to go on the "good" tour- where the Senators didn't get to go. He did get to have a little fun for about 3 weeks, though, as his regular unmarked '63 Galaxie (actually a Custom) 390 Police Interceptor was in the body shop, and he got to drive the barracks' pursuit car- 2-4 barrel 427, 3spd w/ OD- top end, anyone? White w/ black, and the old classic bubble-gum machine on the roof. The rest of the guys were pissed that he got to drive "the toy" for 3 weeks straight. It had a big circle of paint burned out of the center of the hood from the carbs backfiring and catching fire- it went in the body shop when Pop's came out

While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents.
