You can be using a ladder safely and still go down. A neighbor was on a ladder painting when a sow got out, sauntered over to the ladder and started rubbing on it. The result was shoulder surgery. Then another time the same neighbor was on the ladder when the dog chased a cat up the ladder. After the fracas was over he was on the ground again. Can't remember if he was hurt that time. The dumbest thing ,well, maybe one of the dumbest things I've done on a ladder was when I went up a ladder to cut the wires going from the yard pole to an old leaning barn. I didn't realize the barn was pulling on the wires quite that much and when I cut the last wire the pole I was on swung away what seemed like a couple of feet. It probably wasn't that far, but I went for a scarry ride even though I didn't fall. Ever since that time, If I use a ladder on a pole I tie the ladder to the pole once I get up there. Jim
