Brandon,

[quote:6f50de0736]There are two ways to acheive self-respect and dignity.

One way is to judge yourself by how others see you. That makes you a slave to whatever the world thinks you should be today. That makes you foder to your "buddies" needs, or how your admiration makes them feel. (Kind of like a dog chasing it's tail)

The other way to gain self respect and dignity is to daily try to live up to what YOU want to be. That will not get you alot a praise from others, but it gives you a peace that the world will never give you.

That is what the best relationships are based on: whether it be marriage, or friendship.

In a marriage a good woman will love you enough to support you to be the man "you" can respect not be a slave to others.

In a marriage a good man will love her enough to support the woman to be the lady "she can respect.

Now I know who that respectable family man was who was giving you advice. Loving someone enough to see past their shortcomings.......

Seeing their good qualities......... Wanting them to be free to be themselves..... Or at least what they thought was...........Making them face the realities of life.......... Does not mean they were taking advatage of you. Maybe others just feel threatened. What self respect and dignity would be left them, if they could not get it from your admiration.[/quote:6f50de0736]

I said this all before, but I think it bears repeating. When people like Buick have spent all their lives chasing their tails. It's like I told you before "People who live there lives for praise and admiration, not for there own self respect" become deeply offended when anyone does not admire their stuff. If you don't want what they have, if your not jelous, if you find worth in a man's character, (this matters not if he is a janitor, or a doctor), they are left with nothing. That, Mr. Buick, is how we acheive our sense of worth (not pride) as you put it.

(B&D I have kindly left you some spelling errors to correct, you have missed a few in the past. Look close!)
