This question has been surfaced a couple of times on this forum. I had one replaced and it it was tough sledding thru the physical therapy. Although did lose some range of motion, I don't have any pain in that knee and can enjoy activities that weren't possible the last ten years. I do avoid impact loading such as jumping off equipment and always put a pad between the knee and a hard surface. A few lucky individuals don't have any problems during therapy, while a few others have operations that read more like a horror story. The "tighter" a surgeon makes the joint, the more likely you will have a rougher time in physical therapy. The positive aspect is that a tighter joint will generally "last" longer. Not a concern if you are 75-80 years old, but something to consider if significantly younger and have an active lifestyle.
