My father-in-law fought in WWII to preserve our way of life. That means what our constitution stands for...no matter what your religion, no matter what country your parents came from, if you were born an American you were born with rights. Rich or poor, those rights are still yours. When we start "suspending" the constitution and start taking away rights--no matter how heinous the crime--the folks who want to see our country and what it stands for crumble begin to win.
I think, since he's a Major in the Army, and the murders happened on an Army base, he should have a military trial, and then be sentenced to 10 years at hard labor...followed by a firing squad after he satisfactorily completes turning big rocks into little ones. And if his fellow prisoners want to have several blanket parties for him during those 10 years at hard labor, that's just one of the "hazards" of committing a crime, as far as I'm concerned.
And the reason I say 10 years at hard labor before facing the firing squad, it takes a lot of the potential "martyr" element out of his execution.
