havent heard about that yet gene, course sometimes i'm a dim bulb !!! i knowthey closed some of the prisons here in illinois, joliet being one of em. then our ex-gov, lyin ryan, was gonna build one east of kanakakee somewhere. lots of money got spent, but no body ever broke ground. stateville is the big federal pen up in this neck of the woods. that one is still opened. years ago they used to have an "honor farm" for the good cons. the prison had prolly over 1000 acres of farm around the prison, grain, dairy, beef cattle, hogs, plus vegetables. the prisoners had to work the farm and maintain all the live stock. everything raised there was used to feed the prisoners and extra food was sent to other prisons. kept the costs way down. till some politicians got their buddys who owned companys that supplied food to shut the prison farms down and just use taxpayers money to feed the cons.
