TMAC,
You are correct. +12 volts to the s terminal (through the push button) pulls in the solenoid, which in turn engages the starter. The "s" stands for start.
Keep in mind that the tractor will start in gear or out of gear. If it is left in gear and started, it may start and move. Some tractors have a transmission switch that goes in between the push button and the "s" terminal that requires that the tractor is in neutral or park before it can be started. Others have a similar switch on the clutch pedal. Some had neither.
