I always go the day before to see what is dragged in, unannounced. If I see something I really want, I go to the actual auction. Otherwise, not. That place has some of the most confusing auctions I've ever been too. Last one I went to, he had two auctioneers in totally different locations on opposite sides of the lot, like a tag team. Also, when bidding is going on, it is very hard to follow what the current bid is, and often the bid amount get raised yet I see no one in the crowd making that bid.
I've been attending auctions for many years and am not inexperienced at it. That being said, I still get awful confused at MacFadden's auctions. But, he gets some amazing stuff dragged into that place and it's only 20 miles from my house.
