I could also mention the many GM diesel cars in the 70s with the awful Oldsmobile diesels - but they were just that - awful..
The really stupid thing about GM and their Olds diesel is that GM knew better. GM had built successful diesels (did I mention "Jimmy?") for a long time, including the old V6 GMC truck engines which morphed the OTHER way into a gas engine.
Too bad the Govt. didn't force GM to recall and replace every single one of those Olds diesels. I can still remember a Chevy parts guy telling me about the new Chev pu's with the "Olds" 350. "GM recommends that if you pull a trailer you NOT buy the diesel!!"
