Was original paint on antique tractors glossy?

Is the enamel paint of todays standards much more glossy than what tractors were origianlly equipped with in the 1930's and 40's? To correctly restore such a tractor should the paint be flattened out some? Any old timers out there remember what new tractors at that time showed for paint quality?
