We are about 35 miles north of Wilmington, NC. Our county's weather statistics say we average 3 inches of snow, but that is skewed by the fact that every few years we get several inches that stick. In 1989, we had 15" at Christmas. It was already snowing that Christmas Eve about dark and my parents came across a young man walking down the road 40 miles from where he lived. He had gotten in an argument and told whoever he was riding with to put him out, and they did. I don't know what made him think that was smart, but he would have probably frozen to death. They took him part of the way and a friend took him the rest of the way home. Certainly not a MENSA member.
