Sounds like you've either got a bad IGN pole on the key switch, or a bad carbon resistor wire to the coil primary postitive terminal.
1010 is a bit special, but not on the 1020. It uses a carbon resistor wire (like GM cars) to limit voltage to the coil while in "run" position, so maybe you've got a resistor wire problem? Check voltage to the coil primary when running. If it's not 6-8 volts at least, it's time to replace or bypass the wire or replace the switch (or bad connections). A cheap porcelain 1.8 ohm resistor from NAPA will work fine.
