help im a auto mechanic

hey i got a massy-ferguson 174 s and i wanna know what that big ugly oil pump thingy with all the gears and stuff,the one that i didnt think would be so heavy..well what is it whats it do and did i need to time it when i reinstalled it...couse it aint runin so good,,well i set out to overhaul the thing and i do know what im doing,auto mechanic profesionaly 4 15 years,but thats cars.and aint none of them got anything like that...any help would be thankfull 4..sooner the better,i gotta go back afixin on it in the morning
