I worked for a place like that once. The owner did that because he got a hair stuck in his you know what every few months and that was the way to get it out. People warned me not to go to work there because his rep was well known. I did go there because I needed the money and lo and behold I was out in just about a year. His business closed a couple years after I was let go. He had run it into the ground and nobody (his dad included) was not going to get involved anymore. It's always tricky trying to figure out how much information to give out to an employee. You want to tell them enough so they can keep their affairs in order but not damage the business' reputation. Then there are the jerks who do not realize how much they may damage another's life with their shenanigans. I still wish for the worst misfortune (financially) for a couple that affected me even though it's years in the past.
