I shoot a Traditions .36 cal kit built percussion called a Davy Crocket and a 50 cal. Traditions kit built percussion called a kentucky. For instance I use 60 grains of ffg pyrodex, lubed patches and .490 hornaday round balls and a #11 cap to start it all and at 100 yards the sights are dead on. Over 100 yards I have to advance the rear sight to raise the trajectory of the ball.I have shot my SIL's home built 54 Cal. kentucky flint which takes 70 grains of ffg pyrodex and lubed patches pushing a .530 hornaday round balls down the bore and a dash of fffg pyrodex in the pan with an english flint to lite the fire. His range and sight elevation is comparable to mine with the percussion.Raise your rear sight to raise the balls trajectory. It will be a lot more fun if things work right.Google Chastains site" How to build a Muzzleloading Rifle". His info will give you a lot of tips to help out.
