Hi! I own a 650 my self and when that happened to mine had to replace the voltage regulator mounted on the left side of the bulkhead between the engine and the fuel tank it was a finned aluminum box with plug-in connecters. This alternator is a permanent magnet type and gives almost no trouble, it is also only about a 15 amp. output First put a volt meter at the battery terminals and look for a satisfactory voltage probably about the 14 volt rate, does need to be no less than 13 volts when the alt is charging, when you unplug the alt-reg connector your volt meter will be showing a.c. current because you are checking ahead of the reg/rectifier unit, think it sold for about $80.00 and was a dealer item here in the Ga. mud country!
