I have a problem with a backhoe. One of the rams sometimes has no power in one direction. If the bucket is in the air it always moves and at the right speed but when digging about one time in three it does nothing (the engine shows that it is taking strain at this point). Sometimes just putting the valve lever to neutral 'unsticks' it sometimes I have to take the pressure right off by coming ourt of the dirt. I understand how a simple spool valve works but this backhoe has an extra unit 'piggy back' on the spool valves that control the digging (not on the stabilising feet). A friend said this was a 'compensating valve' but did not really know how it worked (something to do with preventing overrun). I am guessing that the problem is in this extra valve buyt do not want to fiddle with it till I know how it works. Any advice? Thanks Gavin
