Some of the comments made are good. But some of them are way out in left field. Get rid of the Stock Market?????? How would larger businesses get the extra capital that they need. The stock market does reflect supply and demand. Not all the time but when a company make a move or realeases a good product the share price rises. Like I said "NOT ALL THE TIME" there are cases where it is manupulated (Ted Turner is a good example). The stock market is ESSENTIAL to a free market. I guess you want socialism?
If you don't want the stock market can CBOT or CME still exist? If not then how will you know what your cattle, corn, wheat, etc. is worth.
The whole thing with the farms getting larger is the Gov't subsidies. It takes a lot of the risk out of farming. Agriculture is not a free market anymore. The gov't influences what they want grown by increasing/decreasing subsidies to the farmer directly or through someone down the line (ethanol for example). The government already thinks there is too many farmers now. Why would they want the little guys to be around. Just more people to watch their every move and try to control.
I may not be an "expert" on this like some of yous are but this is what I see happening. Don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way.
