With a 1500 watt heater, you can use a 14 gauge cord that's 100 feet long, but there will be less waste (and a cooler extension cord) with 12 gauge.
The 2000 watt heater with a 12 or 14 gauge can only be run 15-25 feet.
Extra size isn't going to damage anthing. They are thermosat controlled. In a worse-case scenario, if a heater overheated, is would burn itself or just trip its own circuit breaker. It's not going to hurt the tractor.
