Our local hardware store was going to sell to Rite Aid, fell through because of the economy. He closed his lawn mower repair section in anticipation of closing. Now that he's still running the hardware store w/o the mower business everything is 10-20% higher. To answer the thread, 30 miles to box stores in opposite directions. But, I never start a plumbing project w/o the local place being open. That being said I can save enough going out of town to more than pay for the gas and put money back in my pocket. The local grocery store is like a big 7-11, has reduced sized products w/ higher prices. I spend my income on the best value and the mom and pops should at least act competitive.
