Limp mode on my "02" with the Allison trans put the transmission in 3rd gear to get it home. It would do Park, reverse, and neutral just as normal. It would just go to 3rd gear when put into drive. 3rd is low enough to get moving if not working hard, and high enough to get down the road without getting run over. In my case, the problem was a switch on the side of the transmission (the one the shifter shaft goes thru). It was an east fix. Tim in OR
