Not trying to insult the French with this statement- (I"ve got a few other insult the French lines)- just that French cooking books show what is edible if your really hungry--as in having a few wars in the area to restrict choice of food, find some way to add flavor to what is available so you can survive until war is over and crops can be planted. Some of the poor Americans have choice of road kill, not bad for some rednecks around here wanting grilled venison (redneck grilled venison identifiable by the grill marks- as in GMC, FORD- you get the idea of grilling;^).
