I always called them Popping Johns in the '50 when I was a kid. I first drove a D when I was five years old. Of course the tractor was in first gear (only had three) and the throttle was set about half. Dad was on a drag putting weight on it and watching me like a hawk. I never worked a D under a heavy load very much, but spent many an hour on an R under a pretty good load. I loved the sound of those old tractors. The first time I drove a 4010, I was really disappointed in the sound. It just wasn't the same.
