Congratulations on the new friend.

When I was a kid, we never had a pet that met a peaceful end. I vowed that I would never get a pet.

A few years after I got married, my mother asked me to take in a stray that was living behind her house. He was obviously abandoned and turned out to be a nice guy. Later we got a kitten to keep him company. As long as they were both alive, they never did get along!

Eventually, got a black lab. He was wonderful. He died about 6 years ago. I just couldn't bring myself to replace him. I told everyone that it was for economic reasons.

This last spring my youngest daughter wanted a dog of her own. Someone was giving away a Great Dane/Bull Mastiff female. I gave her the okay, as long as she paid for the feed. So far so good. But that dog is a nut!

Also in the last year we were given two Great Pyrenees. A male and a female. The female had been abandoned and probably been abused. She and I are now great friends, though she looks to be at least 9 or 10 years old. The way she gets around looks like I feel sometime, so I can empathize with her. The male Great Pyrenees earns his keep roaming the farm at night. We haven't lost a single chicken since he has been on duty!

Sorry about the long reply. I guess the topic just touched a cord.

Well, hope you have a long time to spend with your new friend.

Christopher

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Godfrey, Illinois Country Days - by Cindy Ladage. Except for last fourth of July's Old Gold show in Springfield, Illinois, I don't remember when it was so hot. Nevertheless, the heat didn't keep vendors and visitors alike from enjoying the third annual Country Day's Event. Jane Elliott said the event was originally a one man show. "Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this ... [Read Article]
