I live in NY and wasn't aware of the cattail law. On the other hand, I've been known not to pay a lot of attention to nor get too worried about some of NY's stupid laws.
I had our pond cleaned a couple of years ago and there were cat tails in it. Left it drained all winter and was amazed at the number of bull heads that survived in the mud over the winter. Pone looks good now and no cattails.
How about the latest, the no open burning law? Can't burn brush, can't burn papers in a barrel anymore. You can burn if you call it a "ceremonial bonfire." Ha! So keep a package of hot dogs and some soda around whenever you burn.
But--as I said, I and those of us in our neck of the woods pay little or no attention to this nonsense. I suppose that the "greenies" up at the local university will send out their impressionable young folks some day to check on everyone but until then, can you read between thh lines in my sign language, Mr. Grannis? (He's the anti-everything DEC commissioner.)
