That maybe a fun project to pull those parts. A magnet on a stick sort of thing might work and with out going out and looking at my 77 I can not remember if there is a cover you can remove to get in there or not. But also if I remember right you can slide the bell housing back with out pulling the engine or much of any thing else so it may not be all that hard
