I agree with you F14. Common sense and experience make it possible to do some things a bit out of the ordinary, without endangering the whole of civilization. I don't recommend pulling a F-model tractor (whose brakes weren't the best when new) with a chain down a hilly, curvy road at 65 MPH, but just because something is illegal doesn't mean it can't be done without loss of life or serious injury. Ever been to a circus? Maybe practice and experience are worth something after all! I dislike "gummint" trying to dictate every facet of my life, and protect me from every possible happening. I own a small business (machine shop) and get tired of being "gumminted to death". I'm 47 years old, have worked around farm equipment, trucking, and metal-working equipment since I was big enough to walk, and I still have all my digits, eyes, etc, never had a broken bone or serious cut. I don't attribute this to my being so smart, but rather to the grace of God, and certainly not to "gummint regulations". Sorry to go off like this, as I said pulling with a chain has some limits (running the chain through a steel pipe adds considerably to it's safety), but just because something is illegal doesn't make me want to scream loudly that it shouldn't be done.
