Jerry, We bale most of our oats for feed, but last year my son cut some with the combine, and it was about a week after wheat harvest ended, if I remember correctly. Usually cut them for hay when they are pretty green, just after heading. Last year I raked oats on June 21st (see pic) and baled them the next day. In that case, yes, double cropping would be an option, but by the time they are cut for seed it would be too late in most cases, although sorghum for feed can be planted much later as a double crop because it doesn't need to mature to make feed. There were a few who planted soybeans following wheat last year but I don't think it was very successful. We usually try to plant oats in late February, but most years don't work out that way and most are planted in March.
