Old, Don't worry about it. If your son shows up and tells the recruiter what happened...they will compensate for it. I've had people go thru inprocessing due to the fact that Inchon airport had no idea where the luggage was. If the luggage doesn't arrive before Monday morning, I would suggest that he wear smart casual attire and report in. Once there he can explain to the recruiter what happened. Also it's possible that the recruiter can assist in retrieving the luggage (a MSgt can accomplish even, with the civilians, when they are screaming at them, even over the phone, don't ask me how I know this) and help get it returned.
NOTE: If for whatever reason, you have to go to retrieve the luggage. BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN MILEAGE AND KEEP YOUR RECIEPTS. Your son may be able to get re-imbursed when filing with the airline.
If you think Delta Airlines stinks. Don't fly with United Airlines. I flew from Seoul, thru Tokyo Japan, to Los Angeles, to Denver, to El Paso last November when I PCS'd out of Osan to Holloman. If I ever have to fly United again. If it's domestic, I'll go to the car rental place. NEVER AGAIN!
If you have to fly to Asia, may I suggest KAL (Korean Air Lines). Not only do they have lovely Asian Stewardesses, they wait on you hand and foot thru out the flight. If this is how the coach/economy section is I can't imagine how the business/first class section is taken care of.
